Milos is a volcanic island in the Cyclades. This fifth-largest Cycladic island is full of natural surprises and has a special charm. It is famous for the Venus of Milo or Aphrodite which was discovered on the island. This statue can nowadays be found in the Parisian Louvre Museum.
Milos may not be as famous as some other Cycladic islands but it is certainly worth a visit. Milos offers some rare geological phenomena and has the most beaches from all of the Cycladic islands.
The volcanic nature of the island can still be found in its rock formations and amazing (sea)caves. And there is more to Milos. This Greek island offers a variety of outdoor activities such as trekking, diving, sea-kayaking, sailing, and windsurfing.
Culture lovers will enjoy the many museums (Archaeological, Folklore, Ecclesiastical, Maritime, Mining) and excavations from the Mycenaean and Neolithic periods. And did you know that this romantic island is a top destination for weddings?!
Milos can be reached by ferry or by plane from Athens. If you want to find out where to stay on Milos Island, then read on. I have listed the best places to stay in Milos in this post.

Where to stay on Milos Island
Stay in Adamas
Adamas or Adamantas village is located at the main port of Milos. It is the largest and busiest settlement on the island. It has a nice buzz due to the beautiful promenade with trendy boutique shops, the many hotels, restaurants, and hip cafes.
There are two beaches in Adamas; a small sandy beach called Lagada facing the port and the village, and a longer beach called Adamas beach (Papikinou Beach). The sea here is shallow and safe for children, though the beach has sand mixed with pebbles.
Adamas is the best place to stay in Milos if you do not have a car. Not only is Adamas at the port, but it is also the place from which most organized boat trips and private tours depart. I can certainly recommend a boat day trip to the famous Kleftiko caves. There are two museums in Adamas and the main church of Agios Haralambos is also worth a visit.
For your stay in Adamas, I suggest:
Portiani Hotel is located in Adamas village close to local attractions, restaurants, and bars. This beautiful hotel offers spacious clean rooms and a great breakfast.

Another great accommodation option in Adamas is Santa Maria Village. Situated 300 m away from the beach and close to restaurants and bars this beautiful hotel offers spacious rooms with a balcony, free Wi-Fi, air-conditioning, and a swimming pool.

Stay in Pollonia, Milos
The romantic and picturesque fishing village of Pollonia lies at a distance of ten kilometers from Adamas at the Northeast tip of the island. It is a quieter place to stay in Milos but is it has all the amenities that you need for your stay.
Pollonia is very suitable for families because of its protected beaches with golden sand and shallow seas, a playground in the middle of the town, and traditional tavernas by the waterfront. All beaches around Pollonia offer natural shade.
If you plan to visit the nearby Cycladic Kimolos island then Pollonia is definitely your best place to stay in Milos island because the ferry boat to Kimolos leaves from here. Kimolos is great for a day trip! The sulfur mines and the excavations in Pollonia are other interesting activities.
The best hotels to stay in Pollonia, Milos are:

Stay in Plaka, Milos
The picturesque mountain village of Plaka is the main capital of Milos island at a distance of 5 kilometers from the Adamas port. In Plaka, you will find the typical Cycladic architecture of white-washed houses with blue doors and windows.
Plaka hosts many traditional Greek taverns with amazing food and souvenir shops with local products and crafts. Plaka is very popular in the high season and if you have rented a car it is worth mentioning that it is difficult to park in Plaka during the summer. Don’t miss the Archeological and Folkloristic museums and the nearby Venetian medieval castle.
Recommended hotels to stay in this traditional mountain village in Milos island are Halara studios and Vivere A Plakes. Both hotels are built in the traditional Cycladic architecture and offer amazing views over the blue Aegean.
Halara Studios is a value-for-money property. The studios share a panoramic terrace with amazing views over the bay and lie within a 5-minute walk from taverns, mini markets, and shops.

Vivere A Plakes is located on the outskirts of Plaka and is especially suitable for families or groups because it has two-story apartments and a wide choice of accommodation types with fully equipped kitchens, a playground, and board games.
