Welcome to my site! My name is Chrysoula. I am a dog lover (his name is Charlie), a world traveler, and an Athenian, born and raised. I love my city, and I love sharing it with visitors.
There is so much more to Athens beyond the Acropolis (although of course you must see it), so much more to eat than souvlaki (but do try one – they’re delicious), and so much more to discover than Plaka and Syntagma Square.
Our city is full of many different neighborhoods and each one has its own personality – like a little town within the city. Imagine Anafiotika – it’s a Greek Island village in the center of Athens, or Pangrati, with hills like San Francisco, and plenty of style.
We have Aegean beaches in the city – just a tram ride from the center. And we have mountains right in the middle of the city, too (the main one is Lykavvitos – it looks daunting but don’t worry; there’s a funicular if you’re just not feeling a hike).
And the cultural offerings extend far beyond the many ancient archaeological sites. There are world-class performances all summer at the Athens Epidaurus Festival and many international concerts. We also have a great contemporary art scene.
Whatever interests you, you’ll find it in Athens. I’ll help you navigate the city like an Athenian. Our city has a reputation for being a little chaotic, but actively it’s just lively – filled with Mediterranean joie de vivre. With a little help from a local, you’ll be in love with Athens in no time.
There are other places I know like home because they are – the islands of my grandmothers are Lemnos in the North Aegean, and Crete – Greece’s largest southernmost island that had a culture all its own. While I love all the Greek Islands, after so many happy summers of my childhood, these two have a special place in my heart.
The Greek Islands are the experience of a lifetime. But how to see them? How many? Which ones? I’ve been to all of the island groups – the Dodecanese, the Cyclades, the Ionian Islands, the Sporades, and the North Aegean islands – and I can help you find the perfect island that suits your interests and your individual travel style, as well plan how to get there, and how to make the most of your visit.
I’ve been an active travel blogger for almost a decade now, and my work has taken me to nearly every corner of Greece, exploring mountain villages, archaeological sites, and tiny, remote islands.
Are you a hiker? Let me share the famous Vikos gorge with you, or the gorges of Crete. What about wine? I have many wineries to share with you, where you can drink wines from indigenous Greek grape varieties. Are you more of a “let’s just relax at the beach with a book (and maybe a cocktail)” person? We have lots of options – let me take you to some of my favorites, whether you; ‘re looking for peace and quiet or a more sociable experience.
Or maybe you want to find your own beaches – you can do that with a charter boat or a rental. I’ll share some of my best experiences. And who minds a little luxury? I can share places that combine elegance with a true sense of local character – the most enchanting Greek boutique hotels and resorts.
I mentioned before that I’m an avid traveler as well. I have been to around 63 countries (and counting), taking me to most of the continents. This has given me some perspective – I know what the traveler wants because, before anything else, I’m an experienced traveler too. Good planning can make the difference between an easy and satisfying trip and a chaotic one. Island-hopping is a breeze if you know how to book ferries and set the ideal itinerary to suit your personality. And where you stay matters – location is key, but you don’t want to sacrifice comfort and charm.
Thank you so much for stopping by my site – I hope I can help you make the most of your visit to my country!
