Visiting Mylopotas Beach in Ios
Discovering Mylopotas Beach
The village and beach of Mylopotas are 3 km away from the main settlement of Ios, which is called Chora. It is on the southwestern side of the island, and it is about one kilometer long.
Among the 32 beaches of Ios, this one is the most popular, and many people choose to spend their day here. There are so many activities you can do at Mylopotas that you can go there in the morning and have a full day until late at night.
The beach has a natural beauty that takes your breath away. It is in a gulf, that covers it on both sides and is surrounded by cliffs with low vegetation. The long sandy beach has a golden beige color, and the waters are crystal clear.
The waters are usually calm unless the day is very windy. The bottom of the sea is not rocky, so you do not need special shoes to enter the water. Swimming at Mylopotas, surrounded by this beautiful landscape and the turquoise waters, can fill you with bliss and peace.
The side of the beach that is closer to Chora is the busiest one, and it is usually the meeting point of people in their early 20s. There are some famous beach bars there, and the party starts early in the day.
However, if you prefer to be in calmer surroundings, walk towards the other side of the beach. The beach bars are more chill, and they attract couples, families, or just people who are not looking for a crazy party.
Things to do at Mylopotas Beach
As I said before, you could easily spend a full day in Mylopas without having a dull moment because there are a lot of services and amenities at the beach.
First of all, the beach bars at the beach, offer sunbeds, parasols, cabanas, and loungers to their customers. You can hire a sunbed and parasol from them, and you do not have to worry about the hot sun anymore. From the bars, you can buy coffee, snacks, water, and refreshing cocktails.
For those who love adventure, there are places at the beach that rent equipment for water sports such as jet-ski, windsurfing, canoe-kayak, etc. The crystal-clear waters are ideal for snorkeling, so if you are good at swimming, go for it!
From Mylopas you can take the boat that goes around the island to more isolated beaches, caves, and places of unique natural beauty where you can swim, snorkel, or cliff jump. These places are usually not accessible from land, so this trip is a unique opportunity to see the hidden gems of Ios. If you are with a bigger group, you can even arrange a private boat tour around the island.

If you are looking for good food, Mylopas Beach will not leave you disappointed. Taverns and restaurants serve seafood and traditional Greek or European Cuisine. Among the places that are highly reviewed are the Dragos Tavern and the Cantina del Mar restaurant. Additionally, all the hotels around the beach have restaurants, and the beach bars offer sandwiches and other cold dishes.
Some of the biggest clubs on the island are in Mylopotas, and they have parties every night. The most famous ones are the FarOut Beach Club and the Free Beach Bar. The FarOut Beach Club is a space that offers, apart from the party venue, hotel, restaurant, sports club, pool, and cinema. One thing is for sure: a night at Mylopas is fun and exciting.

How to get to Mylopotas Beach
Mylopas Beach is 3 km from the main village of the island, Chora. Those who stay in Chora need to commute to get to the beach.
Of course, if you have a rental car things are easy, as you only have to drive 5 minutes to get to the beach. The snake-shaped road offers a beautiful view of the Aegean Sea. Finding parking close to the beach is not a problem as there is plenty of space.
If you do not have a car, you can take the shuttle bus that goes every 20 minutes from Chora and leaves you on the west side of the beach. The bus is airconditioned, and the ticket price is around 2 Euros.
If you want to be more adventurous, you can walk to the beach. It takes about 30 minutes, and you get to enjoy the view and take pictures on the way. However, you must be careful because the sun, on summer days, is very hot and you might end up with a sunburn. If you choose to walk to the beach, you need a good hat, suncream, proper shoes and of course, water.
